New Logo Mockup Tool

A few days agoI posted that I had released a photoshop file on Github that should help when designing Alexa Skill logos.

Today I have completed a similar simple tool. The new tool simply demonstrates how a logo may show when displayed on the Alexa Skill store or in the skills app. The new tool can be found in the newly created Alexa Skills section (which can be found in the top links. Alternatively access it directly HERE.

New Tool For Evaluating Your Skill Logo

When creating a skill 1 of the often overlooked aspects is the design of the logo. I have been guilty of this myself and ended up with an image that did not work out so well.

An issue that I had not considered originally was the fact that Amazon encases the skill logo in a circular frame. This will leave some aspects of the original image hidden and it is, of course, important that vital aspects of your logo are not contained within these hidden regions.

In Car Commands With Logitech ZeroTouch

Earlier in the year at CES, several car manufacturers announced that they would be integrating Alexa into new models of their vehicles. This was great in that it was the first steps of taking Alexa out of the home. The problem being of course that to take advantage of Alexa you would have been required to purchase a new car.

New Smart Lock Functionality For Smart Home Skills

Amazon has today announced new upcoming functionality for their Smart Home Skills API.

Up until now if you wished to control a smart lock you would have needed to first initiate a skill and call the command within the skill however now the Smart Home Skills API has been extended to introduce the following intents:

New Alexa Skills Contest

Dev Post logoI completely missed this after the original announcement however Amazon have announced a new Skills contest. This time the contest is in partnership with Dev Post.

The contest is extremely open and any type of skill can be submitted providing the skill is unique. The overall prize value for this contest is a whopping $40,000.
