So Who Won At CES?

So this year Amazon have not showcased any new products or even any enhancements to their current product lineup. Therefore you would expect Amazon to be overshadowed at CES. Far from it, Amazon has had no need to announce any products as everybody else appears to be announcing Amazon tie-ins instead.

Lets take a look at some of the highlights.


If This Then That (IFTTT) Now Supported In The UK

With the release of the Amazon Echo in the UK 1 of the main complaints that users have had is the lack of If This Then That (IFTTT) support. Well today Amazon have brought some good news to those awaiting the support, UK Echo's now support the IFTTT service. The bad news is that German users are still awaiting support.

So what is IFTTT

IFTTT is a collection of applets that can carry out a number of actions based on a trigger. For example it would be possible to activate an applet that turns the lights off automatically when you leave the house.

Preview of new Alexa Skills Kit Available in the US

Today via a blog post, Amazon have announced the preview of the new Alexa Skills Kit. Although the preview is currently only available for US skills the new kit demonstrates that we are working on a maturing system. Much of the functionality within the new skills kit could be created by the skills developer however the advantage of using built-in intents can be seen when trying to cater for the large number of sample utterances to cover each potential method an end-user may use to request information.
