The Amazon Alexa team recently posted on the Alexa blog. The Amazon Echo was initially released on November 6th, 2014 to Prime members (and June 23rd, 2015 for non-Prime users). To have achieved sp many skills in such a short period of time is made even more impressive by the fact that skill developers currently cannot monetize their skill.
As the blog post points out the number of skills available has trebled in the last 6 months alone. During this time there have been numerous initiatives from Amazon, Firstly they, of course, released the Echo in the UK and Germany, the Amazon store started to display product pages for each skill and Amazon have really been pushing initiatives to encourage people to release skills such as free t-shirts and competitions on partnering sites such as Hackster.io.
This bodes well for the future of the Echo and I am really excited to see what Amazon plans to add to the mix in future.
