Google has finally confirmed roughly when the Google Home will be released in the UK. During an interview with the BBC at the Mobile World Conference, Google's Rick Osterloh confirmed that Google's home assistant would be released by the end of June.
Google has been in competition with Amazon in the US market since the device's release on the 4th of November 2016, now Amazon's dominance in the UK (and other) market will be under pressure. Although Amazon has had a massive head start Google have been greatly praised for the more natural interaction model of the Google Home. As well as the head start the other saving grace for Amazon is the recent announcement regarding exceeding the 10,000 skill mark. As it has not been available for as long Google does not have anywhere near this level of skills as of yet but expect this to change fast.
Although daunting times for the Echo this should hopefully push the boundaries of the home assistant. I know I will be purchasing a Google Home so that I can develop skills using a live device (always better to test live rather than relying on other tools). Once released in the UK I will, of course, be carrying out a comparison.
